Locks Heath F.C. is a football club based in Fareham suburb of Locks Heath, Hampshire, England. They won the Hampshire League title in 1991. Currently, they are members of the Hampshire Premier League Division One. They play their home games at The Recreation Ground, found on Hunts Pond Road. They play in red and black shirts

Zero Halliburton was originally a metal fabrication company called Zierold Company, which in 1946 changed its name to Zero Corporation. In 1952 Zero, which until then had no relation to Halliburton, bought the luggage division of Halliburton, the Texas oilfield services company. On December 29, 2006, Zero Corporation sold its consumer division to ACE Co. Ltd., a Japanese luggage manufacturer. Today Zero Halliburton is a wholly owned subsidiary of ACE Co. Ltd. of Osaka and Tokyo.

Erle P. Halliburton, the founder of Halliburton, had commissioned the aluminum case in 1938 from aircraft engineers because other luggage could not endure the rough travel through Texas oil fields in a pickup truck. In addition to being more durable than a leather or cloth case due to its rigidity, the aluminum case seals tightly against dust and water.

Today the aluminum cases, which have appeared in over 200 Hollywood movies, are also available in carbon-fiber. They have been seen in wrestling as well - in one ‘angle’, Steve McMichael turned on fellow NFL’er Kevin Greene for a Halliburton stuffed with cash and a 4 Horsemen t-shirt. McMichael used the case to ensure victory several times. Although lighter, the carbon-fiber briefcases cost about $2000 USD, about seven times the cost of the standard aluminum Zero Halliburton briefcases. Famously, the Nuclear Football (the briefcase used to order a nuclear attack) is a modified Zero Halliburton case.

Luggage locks Coffin lock

Coffin Lock is a slang term for a blind panel connector (also called a Butt-Joint Fastener) often used in performing arts to join together stage decks or scenery in a butt joint or cabinet and lid locks on road cases. These are typically two part connectors (male and female) that draw together and lock. The two most common types are the cam and acceptor (sold under the trade name “Roto-Lock”) and more traditional hook and pin version. These devices generally use an Allen key to operate the locking mechanism via a small diameter hole either through the face or rear of the panel. When locked, the considerable mechanical advantage offered by the cam or hook holds the panels tightly together. Coffin locks can be installed directly into a mortise cut into each panel, for total concealment except for the locking hole, or mounted to the rear of the panels.

The Oswego Canal is a canal in the New York State Canal System located in New York, United States. Opened in 1828, it is 23.7 miles (38.1 km) in length, and connects the Erie Canal at Three Rivers to Lake Ontario. The canal has a depth of 14 ft (4.2 m), with seven locks spanning the 118 ft (36 m) change in elevation.

The Sault Locks (usually called the Soo Locks) allow ships to travel between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. The locks are the busiest in the world, passing an average of 12,000 ships (”boats” in Great Lakes parlance) per year. This is achieved in spite of the locks being closed during the winter months, January through March, when ice shuts down shipping on the Great Lakes. The winter months are used to inspect and maintain the locks.

The locks bypass the rapids of the St. Marys River where the water falls 7 meters (21 feet) from Lake Superior. Sault Ste. Marie (pronounced Soo Saint Ma-ree) gives its name to both the Canadian and American cities at the site, in Ontario and Michigan, respectively. The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge between the United States and Canada permits vehicular traffic to pass over the locks.

American locks

The American locks form part of a 1.6 mile (2.6 km) canal formally named the St. Marys Falls Ship Canal. They are owned and maintained by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The first American locks were completed in May 1855.

  • Davis Lock was built in 1914. It is 411 meters (1350 feet) long, 24 meters (80 feet) wide and 7 meters (23.1 feet) deep. The Davis lock is used rather infrequently to lock light freighters, tour boats, and small craft when traffic warrants. SS James A Farrell was the first vessel to lock through.
  • Sabin Lock was built in 1919. It is 1350 feet long, 80 feet wide, and 23.1 feet deep. This lock is decommissioned and no longer used.
  • MacArthur Lock was built in 1943. It is 244 meters (800 feet) long, 24 meters (80 feet) wide and 9 meters (31 feet) deep. This is large enough to handle ocean going vessels that must first pass through the smaller locks in the Welland Canal. First vessel through was the SS Carl D. Bradley.
  • Poe Lock was re-built in 1968, after the Saint Lawrence Seaway had opened. It is 366 meters (1200 feet) long, 34 meters (110 feet) wide and 10 meters (32 feet) deep. It can take ships carrying 72,000 tons of cargo. The Poe is the only lock that can handle the large lakers used on the upper lakes.

There is a project, as yet unfunded, to built a new large lock to replace the Davis and Sabin locks.

Engineers Day

On the last Friday of every June, the public is allowed behind the security fence and cross the lock gates of the American Locks for the annual Engineers Day Open House.[1] Visitors are able to get close enough to the ships passing through the two operating locks to touch them.

Canadian locks

Canadian lock, the only lock on the Ontario side, was built in 1895. It broke down in 1987 and a new lock was built within the old lock. The lock was reopened in 1998 and is used for recreation and tour boats. It is 76 meters long, 16 meters wide and 3 meters deep.

The Sault locks are a well developed tourist site that offers viewing stands to watch the locks at work and tour boat trips through the locks. It is now designated a National Historic Site of Canada (see: Sault Ste. Marie Canal).

Chicago Lock Co. is a lock manufacturer. Since 1933, it has sold a tubular lock marketed under the registered trademark “Ace.” Millions of Ace locks have been sold; for instance, these locks are used in Northwestern Corporation’s Triple Play bulk vending machine.

Chicago Lock was acquired in November 1999 by CompX.

Brandy Pond is a small lake in Naples, Maine, United States, that is connected to Long Lake by the Chute River which at one time was regarded by The Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s shortest river. Brandy Pond is connected to Sebago Lake by the Songo River. To get to Sebago Lake through the Songo River you must pass through the Songo locks, one of the last remaining hand operated locks in the country.
Brandy Pond is bounded by a commercial or downtown area called the “causeway” on Rt. 302. An area of homes on the southerly side called Scenic Drive and a golf course on the northern side as well as many private homes and public campgrounds and condominiums.

Luggage locks Bridge of the Gods (modern structure)

The Bridge of the Gods is a steel truss cantilever bridge that spans the Columbia River between Cascade Locks, Oregon and Washington state near Stevenson. It is approximately 40 mi (64 km) east of Portland, Oregon and 4 miles (6.4 km) upriver from the Bonneville Dam. It currently serves as a toll bridge operated by the Port of Cascade Locks.

The bridge was built by the Wauna Toll Bridge Company of Walla Walla, Washington and opened in 1926 as a 1,127 ft bridge. The higher river levels resulting from the construction of the Bonneville Dam required the bridge to be further elevated and extended to its current length of 1,856 ft.

The bridge is named after a famous geologic event also known as Bridge of the Gods.

The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the Columbia River on the Bridge of the Gods and the lowest elevation of the trail is on this bridge.

Created by Eli Whitney’s ( creator of the cotton gin ) nephews, Eli Whitney and Philos Blake, a mortise lock (also mortice lock in British English) is one that requires a pocket - the mortise - to be cut into the door or piece of furniture into which the lock is to be fitted. In most parts of the world, mortise locks are generally found on older buildings constructed before the advent of bored cylindrical locks, but they have recently become more common in commercial and upmarket residential construction in the United States.

The parts included in the typical mortise lock installation are the lock body (the part installed inside the mortise cut-out in the door); the lock trim (which may be selected from any number of designs of doorknobs, levers, handle sets and pulls); a strike plate, or a box keep, which lines the hole in the frame into which the bolt fits; and the keyed mortise cylinder which operates the locking/unlocking function of the lock body. However, in the United Kingdom, and certain other countries, most mortise locks on dwellings do not use cylinders, but have lever tumbler mechanisms.

The installation of a mortise lock cannot generally be undertaken by the average homeowner since it is labor intensive and requires a working knowledge of basic woodworking tools and methods. Many installation specialists use a mortising jig which makes precise cutting of the pocket a simple operation, but the subsequent installation of the external trim can still prove problematic if the installer is inexperienced.

Although the installation of a mortise lock actually weakens the structure of the typical timber door, a mortise lock does offer more versatility than a bored cylindrical lock, both in external trim, and functionality. Whereas the latter mechanism lacks the architecture required for ornate and solid-cast knobs and levers, the mortise lock can accommodate a heavier return spring and a more solid internal mechanism, making their use possible. Furthermore, a mortise lock will typically accept a wide range of other manufacturers’ cylinders and accessories, allowing architectural conformity with lock hardware already on site.

Some of the most common manufacturers of mortise locks in the United States are Baldwin, Best, Corbin Russwin, Emtek, Falcon, Schlage, and Sargent. Also, many European manufacturers whose products had been restricted to “designer” installations have recently gained wider acceptance and use.
